Happy New Year

Happy 2006!

The Broncos just didn't pull it off in the last minute of the MPC Computers Bowl game, but it was an exciting, dramatic close, with BSU down 27-0 midway through the 3rd quarter.

Anyway, my analysis below was pretty dead-on. BC had success with first downs and the deep ball and ball control in the first half, taking real advantage of two huge BSU mistakes, and scoring two touchdowns late in the first half. Thereafter, Boise State's defense came up huge as BC's offense went very conservative, and Boise State's offense quit making mistakes (until Zabransky's unfortunate throw on 3rd and goal). Thus, it ended 27-21. The crowd was amazing, staying through a sleet/rain storm, even while BC was building its lead, witnessing one of the best run backs of the year with Quinton Jones 92 yard punt return. Disappointing, but it was a good run for Boise State.

I'll save foward looking prospects for Bronco football later in the season, but next year's team should be very good.

As for my poetry in the new year, this January I have a couple of gigs with Gulf Stream in Miami, reading with pals (Jill Drumm, Jesse Millner, and Michael Hettich) and some new folks, and a fund-raiser for WGCU, the local PBS station. There, I will be performing with Kat Epple, a flautist who has done lots of collaborative works with Robert Rauschenburg. Also reading there will be Rachel Kazor, one of my poetry students, who already is a mature, capable poet: she is the real deal. It should be a fun way to start the new year.
